Scott McAllister
Every commission is a collaboration — a chance to create something new, personal, and lasting. From wind symphonies to solo concertos, each piece is crafted with care and shaped by the unique vision of the commissioner.
Selected Commissions
Commissioned by Nancy Ambrose King
Grunge Concerto was written for and dedicated to Nancy Ambrose King, Professor of Oboe at the University of Michigan. This work emulates the emotions of the X generation and the energetic and stagnant aspects of grunge music. The soloist imitates this style with aggressive technical passages along with an unkempt spirit contrasted by psychedelic passages.
Commissioned by Florida State Music Teachers Association
Uncle Sam's Songbag is a three - movement dramatic song cycle . Scored for mezzo - soprano, clarinet, and piano, the piece explores American identity through the lens of political and social satire, featuring highly theatrical vocal lines and extended clarinet techniques. The work wa s commissioned by the Florida State Music Teachers Association and features a set of distinct, character - driven movements . McAllister often uses the piece to comment on the derogation of American culture, blending humor with serious musical motifs.
